Role Overview & Responsibilities

If so, we are looking for a Certification Officer to join our client, as a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career within the Civil Service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, open and record all incoming mail. Input details of post received to the appropriate post spreadsheet and the Seafarer Documentation System
- Assess and process applications to enable seafarers to sit Merchant Navy Yacht and Fishing Vessel Deck and Engineer oral examinations
- Assess applications from seafarers for Global Maritime Distress & Safety System endorsements, re-validations and for Vessel Traffic Services
- Issue Certificates of Competency/Equivalent Competency to seafarers who meet the qualification criteria
- Answer telephone enquiries and reply to written enquiries relating to the certification of seafarers
- Contribute to and provide support for other administrative tasks such as: branch projects, customer service initiatives and improvement of working practices
- About you
- Be a highly motivated, positive and an enthusiastic individual with a flexible attitude and a keen willingness to learn
- Have excellent organisational skills and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise a conflicting workload
- Have strong communication skills and can communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- You can deliver information in a clear, confident, professional manner
- Have excellent IT skills and a demonstrable knowledge in the use of Microsoft packages, in particular Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
Pay rate:£11.66/hour, Monday to Friday - up to 37.50 hours/week, 15 weeks assignment, extension possibility.
The Seafarer Services phone lines are open to customers at the following times:
Mon - Fri 8.15am - 5.30pm
The role holder will be required to cover these opening hours on a rota basis. For example, a full time Certification Officer works a 7.4 hour day (37 hours per week) with variable start and finish times.
